One family, two halves of the same pool

Colin builds it. Jeff keeps it.

Jeff and his son Colin started out in 2004, building pools from Corolla to Hatteras for a Virginia Beach company while hundreds of houses a year went up on the Outer Banks. In 2007 they opened Four Seasons Pool Builders Inc in Point Harbor. Today Colin and his crew run construction and Jeff runs pool service.

Full-time techs, certified pool operators, no storefront.

Jeff's techs are full-time employees and Certified Pool Operators. They carry PDA field computers to record chemical readings for every pool and spa, and common parts on the truck. There is no storefront and no chemical counter: the work happens at your pool.

From the dig to the first swim

How a Four Seasons pool goes in, section by section.

Their own construction sequence, drawn as sections from the standards they publish, then handed across the waterline to the service crew.

Layout and dig

Over-dig the sand, then compact it

Outer Banks ground is sand. The crew digs 6 to 12 inches past the shell and compacts it back before any steel goes in, so the floor sits on firm ground instead of loose fill.

Steel

#4 rebar through walls and floor

Half-inch #4 bar is tied through the walls and the floor. Plans are reviewed against the 2012 ISPSC codes and walked through at a pre-construction meeting before the steel is inspected.

Shotcrete

8 inch walls, 12 inch locking beam

Shotcrete goes on at a minimum of 8 inches in the walls and floor, which Four Seasons rates 33% stronger than the industry standard, under a 12 inch locking beam with a 4-bar bond beam.

Tile, coping, deck

The waterline gets set

Waterline tile and coping go on, then the deck. The deck's wire mesh is bonded to the pool equipment so stray ground current has somewhere safe to go.

Finish and Pool School

Interior finish, clean, then Pool School

The interior finish goes in (white to midnight blue), the site is cleaned, and the owner gets Pool School: how the equipment runs and what to watch for.

Across the waterline

Then Jeff's crew keeps it

From here the pool belongs to the service side: weekly water analysis, brushing, vacuuming, baskets and filter pressure, recorded by a certified pool operator on a field computer.

Built, remodeled, and kept clean every week.

Six jobs, one family. Construction runs from Corolla to Cape Hatteras; weekly service from Corolla to Nags Head.

The Cox family pool, built 2010

Sixteen summers on the original vinyl liner.

The family's own pool went in in 2010 and still has the liner it was built with. That is what weekly chemistry and a shell built to their standard look like over time on the Outer Banks.

Pool owners ask these first.

Rates and warranty terms are the ones Four Seasons publishes. Anything else, call Jeff at (252) 207-6986.

Published weekly rates start at $80/wk for a private pool only, $115/wk for a private pool and spa, and $145/wk for a rental pool and spa. A rental pool in an unoccupied week starts at $80/wk. Every visit comes with a full service report.

No. There are no extra charges for extra visits during occupied weeks, and no mid-week charge for weeks the house sits empty. Four Seasons is a preferred vendor for Outer Banks rental companies, so the schedule is built around turnover days.

Pool construction runs from Corolla to Cape Hatteras. Weekly service covers Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. The company is based in Point Harbor, NC.

Their published warranty: the shotcrete shell is warrantied for life, plaster finishes for 5 or 10 years, the pool light, cleaner, pump, filter, heater and controls for 3 years each, and tile, coping, decking and skimmers for 2 years each.

Yes. A saltwater conversion is a one-time job priced under $1,000. Four Seasons is a Sta-Rite & Hayward Certified Service Center and services salt chlorinators as part of regular care.

No storefront and no chemical sales. The techs are full-time employees and Certified Pool Operators (CPO), they carry common parts on the truck, and they record chemical readings for every pool and spa on field computers.
